For example, several of Benson Hill’s soybean varieties deliver higher protein and healthier oil, allowing food producers to reduce processing steps and use fewer natural resources while realizing more protein or oil from every acre. With an expanding seed portfolio that includes High-Oleic, Low-Linoleic (HOLL) varieties and Ultra-High Protein (UHP) food-grade options for direct planting or licensing, Benson Hill gives growers the ability to choose soybeans with specific attributes that align with the shifting needs of food manufacturers.

The result? Soybeans that empower end users with choice and a voice in how food is produced. When focusing on the downstream value created for food processors or ingredient companies, Benson Hill delivers soybeans that meet or exceed market expectations. In fact, we’ve analyzed millions of data points and generated more than 4.4 million digital genotypes to develop proprietary soybean varieties – many destined for human food – that effectively balance nutrition and functionality for soybean meal and soybean oil. In turn, Benson Hill’s strategic partnerships with food industry leaders such as ADM open doors for growers who want to supply diverse food markets across the U.S. and elsewhere.

Building on recent work in feed and food, Benson Hill is now working to optimize the soybean’s “mass balance” for both protein and oil composition, presenting a near-term opportunity for growers to serve two markets with a single crop.

The Ultra-High Protein (UHP) soybean is Benson Hill’s foundational platform, to which we can add other quality traits and next-generation improvements.

UHP soybeans are suitable for use in human food or for processing into soy protein concentrate (SPC) or soy protein isolate (SPI).

Our Ultra-High Protein, Low Oligosaccharide (UHP-LO) soybean offers digestibility and nutrition benefits ideally suited for the animal feed market with its blend of higher protein concentration + lower anti-nutrients (oligosaccharides) + improved mix of amino acids.

UHP-LO soybeans are suitable for use in poultry feed, swine feed, aquaculture feed (for species like salmon, trout and shrimp), and for use in human food (such as protein and dairy alternatives and meat extension applications).
