Michelle Gloeckler is a retail and consumer goods executive with 30+ years of P&L experience and results. She held leadership roles at Academy Sports + Outdoors (2.5 years), Walmart (8 years) and The Hershey Company (21 years). She currently serves on the Board of Directors for Benson Hill, PEEP Performance and The University of Michigan DAC, LSA.
Michelle served as the Chief Merchant & President International for Academy Sports + Outdoors. Academy is a $5b privately held sporting goods retailer operating 250+ stores in 16 states plus ecommerce. She was responsible for all buying, merchandising, private brand development and sourcing as well as planning, pricing, replenishment and planograms.
During her 8 years at Walmart, she continuously gained responsibility in scope and scale. She was EVP over $85b Consumables and Health & Wellness Division and U.S. manufacturing lead. She led business categories of Beauty and Personal Care, Pet, Paper and Chemicals, Baby, OTC, Pharmacy, Clinics and Optical. Her team of 67,000 included Pharmacists, Techs and Opticians. Michelle led the Rx JPA with McKesson in 2016. In addition, Michelle was responsible for Walmart’s $250b investment in products that support American jobs. Michelle was selected to lead the President’s Global Council of Women Leaders in 2015, reporting to Doug McMillon, CEO.
Michelle was SVP of Home, overseeing buying, branding, product development for Cook, Bed, Bath, Décor, Outdoor Living, Plants and Furniture. She also served as SVP of Merchandise Execution. Her team developed all communication, signage, fixtures and localized assortments for stores, including unique assortments for Alaska, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Michelle joined Walmart in 2009 as VP of Candy, seasonal food gifts and Front End impulse.
Prior to Walmart, Michelle spent 21 years at The Hershey Company, working in the field and home office in VP roles overseeing sales, marketing, and category development for Hershey’s U.S. retailers and brands. She also served as GM of The Hershey Experience, leading the direct-to-consumer business: Hershey’s Chocolate World visitors’ center, New York and Chicago flagship stores, web and catalog business, including fulfillment and call center, manufacturing and product licensing.
Michelle served on both industry and non-profit boards to include Retail Advisory Board for NACDS, 8 years on the board of Network of Executive Women (NEW), including two years as national chair. She also served on American Heart Association, Susan B, Komen and the Walton Arts Center while in AR and served on United Way PA.
Michelle ranks #38 on Fortunes Most Powerful Women, October 2015 and has been recognized by the industry as a Top Woman in grocery, Mass Merchandising and Shopper Marketing.
