St. Louis Mosaic Project recognizes Benson Hill’s ongoing commitment to promoting regional prosperity through innovation, inclusion, and immigration

ST. LOUIS, MO – Sept. 9, 2022 – Benson Hill, Inc., a food tech company unlocking the natural genetic diversity of plants with its cutting-edge food innovation engine, has been named the St. Louis Mosaic Project’s 51st Mosaic Ambassador Company. At the intersection of data science, plant science and food science, Benson Hill continues to expand its diverse team of multinational, multidisciplinary experts to advance its mission of setting the pace of innovation in food.

As a Mosaic Ambassador Company, Benson Hill commits to valuing and maintaining an internationally welcoming work environment. The company plans to engage the Mosaic Project’s foreign-born community for recruitment opportunities to expand its talent pool. It will also continue to support the growing international community in St. Louis by highlighting stories of its immigrant and international associates on the Mosaic website. Benson Hill will also spread awareness of the St. Louis Mosaic Project, encourage associates to become Mosaic Ambassadors, and participate in volunteer opportunities that support international communities. To mark Welcome Week 2022, the company is hosting an interactive discussion with a panel of foreign-born team members and guests of the Mosaic Project.

“At Benson Hill, we foster an entrepreneurial environment where team members, no matter where they come from, are viewed as collective authors of a culture that empowers continuous growth and achievement of bold outcomes,” said Kelly Fischer, Chief People Officer of Benson Hill and executive sponsor of the employee-led Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Council. “Half of our executive leadership team is foreign born, and we believe that the inclusion of people and ideas inspires the greatest form of innovation. Benson Hill is committed to being a part of that innovation in the St. Louis community as we work to modernize our food system. Our designation as a Mosaic Ambassador is an avenue through which we can continue to drive progress.”

“St. Louis Mosaic project is an anchor and support system for the immigrant community in St. Louis, providing opportunities to meaningfully contribute to the region,” said Russian-born Yevgeny Fundler, Benson Hill’s Chief Legal Officer. He emigrated to the United States in 1988 and moved to St. Louis in 2014, and says he understands the immigrant experience in St. Louis is unique. “At Benson Hill, it’s been wonderful to have ideas and opinions from a truly international workforce, with colleagues who bring different perspectives and work solutions from all over the world. We know success in business isn’t just about the numbers, but relationships. As we are growing, we need more people who want to learn from others in a diverse environment.”

Benson Hill was one of the first tenants at the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership’s (SLEDP) Helix Center Biotech Incubator. The St. Louis Mosaic Project is a regional initiative within SLEDP and the World Trade Center St. Louis. Located in the 39 North Agtech Innovation District, Benson Hill’s corporate headquarters building now houses more than 200 employees. In fall 2021, Benson Hill commissioned its flagship Crop Accelerator facility, a state-of-the-art controlled environment research facility located near headquarters. The company began trading publicly on the New York Stock Exchange on Sept. 30, 2021, was named to Fast Company’s prestigious annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2022, and recently won a Startup Exit Award from St. Louis INNO/St. Louis Business Journal.

“In a decade’s time, we have witnessed Benson Hill’s immense progress from the humble beginnings of a small start-up in our incubator space to a thriving powerhouse that’s transforming the food and agriculture sector,” said Rodney Crim, CEO and President of St. Louis Economic Development Partnership. “We are honored to be a part of their success story and continue to work with them in the community.”
